Corey’s “Free Ride” Blog: A Wonderful Occasion for Fun

Some days I am at the same place for both 103 minute remotes; other days I am at the same business for both 103 minute remotes, but different locations. Today is one of those days!

11am – 12:43pm: Save-on-Foods – Rutland (301 Hwy 33 W)
Calling all Rutlandians! (everyone says Rutlanders, but I like my choice)
As I was setting up in front of Save-on, Bernice and Claire were sitting and waiting for their ride.  I bring a portable stereo to all my remotes and place it on the roof of the Jeep.  After I raised the WIN HERE and Beach Radio flags, opened the table, and placed the table skirt on, Bernice meandered over to me and said, “I’m 89 years old, and I must say that this is the nicest sounding radio station I have ever heard in Kelowna, and I have lived here for 51 years!”
Bernice wasn’t even interested in winning the Jeep (she’s not fit to drive), but she said that Rock the Lake sounds like “a wonderful occasion for fun.”  Ha! That’s the best summary of a rock concert ever!

3 – 4:43pm: Save-on-Foods – Glenmore (1972 Kane Road)
It’s the northsiders turn to get into the action! This is the first time we had the Jeep up in the Glenmore area of the city.  I’m excited to see that the hot weather did not dissuade some people from becoming followers!  It can be a deterrent (and standing on concrete in 30 degree heat for 103 minutes can make a man sweaty, and therefore possibly definitely aromatic), but there’s an air-conditioned grocery store only meters away.  Save-on-Foods has a Happy Hour on Tuesdays through Fridays from 3 – 7pm, and Tuesday is 1/2 price kebobs, of the chicken, beef, pork, turkey variety.  I don’t know if President Darrell (of Darrell’s Deals) gives out kick backs, but I definitely upsold 3 or 4, so… there’s that.
Noelle has been a loyal listener for a long time, and she was excited to finally see the Jeep, the “other black beauty” in Kelowna! (it’s funny, because Noelle is black, and she made me laugh when she said that.)  I told her to jump in and get a feel for the Jeep, and then she saw the roof was off, so she jumped up and yelled “I WON!” for the whole parking lot to hear! Ha! I love this job!
