No, the Free Ride contest hasn’t changed. You will continue to find me with the Jeep for 103 minutes, twice a day, Monday to Thursday, until August 8th.
Friday was a special day, however. Big White invited the crew and I to broadcast the Afternoon Drive from Freeride Days! What an awesome way to head into the weekend! And I don’t just mean we were “on site” to broadcast from the mountain bike park – we had the best seat in the house!
Corey’s “Free Ride” Blog: Going the extra mile(s)
From Beach Radio to our amazing vantage point, it’s 64km (if you’re worried that am putting too many clicks on the odometer this summer, relax; I’m only at 2200). First up, the women’s slopestyle event. Slopestyle courses include jumps, large drops, quarter-pipes and wooden obstacles. For anyone that thinks this is a young ladies sport, think again; a 47 year-old woman can compete at this high of a degree. Humans are unstoppable! Canadian Stephanie Nychka took first place!
The men followed with some “light” practice runs for Saturday’s slopestyle Gold event.
But the show-stopper was the Best Trick competition! Talk about having a front-row seat to jaw-dropping, gravity-defying, adrenaline-pushing action! What a great way to cap off an afternoon of thrills and spills!
This is a very family friendly event, with food and beverage on site! Worth the 64km drive!
