Report of dispute involving gun prompts police response
Police were out in force in Kelowna’s McCulloch Road area Tuesday night after reports of a dispute involving a man and two women, possibly with a gun involved.
RCMP received more than one report around 9 p.m. of a disturbance involving an unknown male and two unknown females, who were reportedly on foot in the area of McCulloch Road and East Kelowna Road when the women engaged in a dispute.
Police rushed to the area after learning that the male suspect had produced a firearm and handled it in a threatening manner towards one of the women. The apparent victim of the threat reportedly departed on foot in an opposite direction from the other two individuals.
“Containment, with police check points, was established throughout the area while front line officers searched with the assistance of a police canine. Despite their search efforts of open areas, properties, businesses and motor vehicles, mobile throughout that search area, the group of individuals involved were not located,” said Cpl. Jesse O’Donaghey.
A man and woman who matched the descriptions of the people and were in the vicinty, were taken into custody, but were ruled out and released without charges.
“To anyone who was in the McCulloch Road area as this event unfolded, we would like to extend our appreciation for your patience and full cooperation as our officers worked to ensure you were safe,” stated O’Donaghey.
The male suspect was described as a Caucasian male, about 25 years old, 5 ft 8, of slim build, seen wearing a dark tank top style undershirt, and dark shorts.
One of the females was wearing a pink shirt with blond hair in a pony tail.
“We need more independent witnesses to come forward with their information, as we continue our efforts to identify all of the individuals involved, and determine exactly what transpired,” added the corporal. “We believe that the incident was isolated and that all the parties involved were known to each other.”
