Man pays price after confronting vandal
A civilian ended up getting injured when he tried to restrain a man involved in a Kelowna crime spree.
“On August 5, 2019 shortly after 1 p.m., Kelowna RCMP received a report of a mischief in progress, where a shirtless male suspect was said to be throwing rocks at vehicles parked in the 2000-block of Harvey Avenue. While responding to the area, police were told that the suspect continued to damage property as he pedalled his bike west bound, targeting vehicles parked along the south side of Harvey Avenue,” said Cpl. Jesse O’Donaghey.
A man inside one of the targeted vehicles with his young child, jumped out and confronted the suspect, and ended up sustaining non-life threatening injuries during his attempt to physically restrain the suspect.
A 30-year-old man was eventually arrested.
“Immediately following the physical altercation, the suspect entered into a nearby business. Front line officers arrived on scene, entered inside the business and managed to apprehend the suspect as he was attempting to flee out the back door,” added the corporal.
The suspect had unrelated warrants for his arrest.
He was held in police custody, and faces a number of potential criminal charges.
