Snow causes ‘mayhem’ on Bennett Bridge
Police say drivers were in distress and it was “mayhem” on the West Kelowna side of the Bennett Bridge Friday morning.
“Just before 8:30 a.m., police officers of the West Kelowna RCMP frontline responded to multiple vehicles stuck on Highway 97 in both the westbound and eastbound lanes near the William Bennett Bridge,” said RCMP Cpl. Meghan Foster. “The recent snow has prevented vehicles from getting up the hill while causing vehicles to slide down the hill just west of the bridge.”
RCMP were urging stranded drivers to remain in their vehicles to maintain their safety.
“First responders are on scene trying to assist those that are stuck while sand trucks and snowplows deploy to the area,” said Foster.
Sand trucks were also dispatched to the site.
The incident caused major traffic back-ups to the morning traffic commute.
