Police incident closes road, puts school on lockdown
An incident involving a vehicle failing to stop for police, prompted RCMP to seal off area in West Kelowna’s Glenrosa neighbourhood Tuesday.
The precautions included a lockdown at Glenrosa Middle School which lasted about an hour.
“Shortly after 10:40 a.m., West Kelowna RCMP were involved in an ongoing police investigation when they attempted to stop a motor vehicle on Glenrosa Road. The vehicle failed to stop for police and was last seen driving at a high rate of speed from that location,” said Const. Lesley Smith.
The suspect vehicle was found unoccupied a short time later, leading to police flooding the area with a police dog team and a plane in the air.
“In order to ensure public safety, police closed a portion of the roadway and notified several businesses including a local school during the unfolding police incident. The incident was not related to the school and notification was only precautionary in nature,” Smith added.
RCMP do not mention any arrests and say the investigation remains active at this time, but Glenrosa Road has reopened and police say there is no current threat to the public.
All businesses and schools that were affected by the incident due to the close proximity of the unfolding event, have since reopened.
“The West Kelowna RCMP wish to extend their thanks to all those who were impacted, for their patience, understanding and full cooperation during the temporary road and business closures,” added Smith.
