Malindi Elmore of Kelowna set a new Canadian women’s marathon record on Sunday, which could get her a spot on the national team for the 2020 Tokyo Games.
The 39-year-old finished the Houston Marathon in two hours 24 minutes to finish third in the race, cutting about two minutes off the former record set by Rachel Cliff last year.
Where do I even begin to thank everyone who was with me today – in my heart and on the course – while I was able to do something I love and achieve something that, until recently, was never on my radar?
I can’t… https://t.co/xg20wtU801

The website, Canadian Runner, says it was Elmore’s second marathon ever.
“Elmore was a talented high school runner who attended Stanford University before returning to Canada to do a masters degree at the University of Calgary. She competed for Canada at the 2004 Olympic Games, the 2006 Commonwealth Games and the 2011 Pan Am Games as a 1,500m specialist who ran one of the fastest times ever by a Canadian woman, at 4:02.64,” said the website.
