Friday the 13th, unlucky for some drivers
Kelowna RCMP Municipal Traffic Section (KMTS) and RCMP Central Okanagan Traffic Services (COTS) caught quite a few motorists breaking the law on Friday the 13th of March.
“Our traffic enforcement officers were out on several busy streets in Kelowna throughout the day,” states Cpl. Jocelyn Noseworthy. “In particular, they spent time throughout the day in front of Raymer Elementary School.”
She said that over the course of the day 112 violation tickets were issued to drivers, including 85 for distracted driving, 11 for failure to wear a seatbelt, and 16 for other violations.
“Distracted driving offences come with a $368 fine and four demerit points,” said Noseworthy. “Failure to wear a seat belt offences will cost you $167.”
“The students of Raymer Elementary School posted a sign to remind drivers about the importance of remaining distraction free,” said Sgt. Mark Booth of the Kelowna RCMP Municipal Traffic Section. “We will continue to be out on the road looking for drivers failing to obey the rules.”
