B.C. Covid update: 25 new cases; four new deaths; no change for Interior Health
British Columbia has had 25 new COVID-19 cases in the past 24 hours, bringing the total to 1,291 since the outbreak began.
In the Interior Health region there were no new cases so it stays at 128.
The totals also stayed the same on Vancouver Island (79) and in Northern Health (23).
Sadly, the number of fatalities grew by four to 44 in B.C., with three deaths in the Vancouver area and one in Fraser Health.
There are 138 people in hospital and 66 are in intensive care, both those numbers are down from yesterday.
A total of 805 patients have fully recovered.
Provincial health officer, Dr. Bonnie Henry, said with different religious celebrations coming up in the next few days and weeks, we need to keep a safe distance to help each other and our elders to stay healthy.
She said this is not the time to be travelling to vacation homes and cabins so we don’t put an extra strain on the resources in smaller communities. Dr. Henry said we should stay home and connect with family, but at a distance as inside group celebrations can be problematic.
Health Minister Adrian Dix said that 56 doctors and 880 nurses and practitioners had rejoined the health care field in B.C. And on this World Health Day he thanked all the healthcare workers who are working tirelessly to help us all.
He said we need all need to double down in our efforts to stay safe as there is some evidence we are flattening the curve, and for the upcoming long weekend, he said to Bend the Curve, Not the Rules.
