B.C. Covid update: 11 new cases, no new deaths
British Columbia is reporting 11 new Covid-19 cases since Monday, bringing the number of active cases to 172.
There are no new cases in Interior Health, which is listed as having one active case, with that person in hospital with the virus.
“There is one person in hospital but they have met that criteria of being at the end of their active, infectious stage so they are technically somebody who has recovered from Covid,” said Dr. Bonnie Henry, provincial health officer.
There are no new deaths in B.C.
There is one new health care outbreak at the Maple Hill long term care facility at Langley Memorial Hospital, leaving five active outbreaks.
Dr. Henry says an increase in cases in some parts of the world — like the U.S. and Beijing — suggest measures to prevent the spread of the illness should not be relaxed too quickly.
Health Minister Adrian Dix says B.C. is rebuilding its reserve of personal protective equipment to prepare for a potential second wave of COVID-19 as it explores the possibility of locally made products.
