Moose swims across Okanagan Lake, and back
RCMP are reminding the public to avoid crowding wildlife after an incident involving a moose in the Central Okanagan.
On Wednesday (June 17) just before 8 a.m., RCMP were called to Beach Avenue in Peachland for a report of a moose attempting to come ashore.
“The cow moose had swum from the Okanagan Mountain Park area across Okanagan Lake and was attempting to come ashore near Beach Avenue. However, she was scared off by a number of people crowding the shoreline attempting to see and photograph her. In response to the attention, the moose swam back across the lake again,” said Cpl. Jocelyn Noseworthy, media relations officer.
“West Kelowna RCMP are reminding the public to give our wildlife a wide berth and ensure they have an escape route. Crowding wildlife of any kind can lead to conflict, injury and even death. You can also face penalties under the B.C. Wildlife Act,” said Noseworthy.
