The B.C. Wildfire Service says the province has seen a lower-than-usual number of wildfires in May and June.
It says 176 fires have burned 651 hectares since April 1, well below the 10-year average of 28,000 hectares burned for this time of year.
There has been 34 fires in the Kamloops Fire Centre, burning 115 hectares
Wildfire Service information officer Karley Desrosiers says the biggest reason has been wet weather and fire bans in place for most of the spring.
The fire danger rating is currently between moderate’ and very low’ for all of southern B.C.
