Occupants rescued from vehicle over embankment
First they rescued an occupant from a vehicle that went off the road — and then they went back for their dog.
West Kelowna Fire Rescue (WKFR) responded to a motor vehicle over an embankment in the 1500 block of Bear Creek Road around 8:15 p.m. on Tuesday (June 30)
Once on scene crews found a vehicle half way down the embankment being held in place by a small tree.
“A rescuer was lowered on a rope rescue system to secure the vehicle with a winch and to extricate the occupant from the vehicle. The occupant was assessed by BC Ambulance Service once back up to the road and released on scene,” said Chad Gartrell, assistant fire chief.
WKFR lowered their rescuer for a second time to retrieve the occupant’s small dog that remained uninjured inside the vehicle to reunite with its owner.
Fire Rescue is thanking RCMP and BCAS for their support during this incident and remind the public to exercise caution on wet roads especially in light of the recent heavy localized downpours.
