One person died in a fiery crash on the Trans Canada Highway this morning.
A semi tractor-trailer unit and passenger car were involved in a rollover collision 6 kilometres west of Revelstoke around 4:40 a.m., resulting in the vehicle being engulfed in flames after the transport truck rolled.
“Sadly, the driver of the passenger vehicle was pronounced deceased at the scene by emergency paramedics,” said Cpl. Jesse O’Donaghey spokesperson for the RCMP Southeast District. “One of our priorities at this time is to establish an identity for the deceased and properly notifying that person’s family.”
O’Donaghey said the investigation remains in its early stages, as police work to determine what factors lead to the crash. The passenger vehicle was engulfed in flames following the impact, while the commercial transport truck rolled.
Highway 1 at the crash site remains closed as of 10:45 a.m. (Aug. 13) with updates on Drive BC.
