Name of homicide victim released; shooter still at large
The shooting death of a man in Kelowna is being investigated as a homicide.
Two Kelowna men showed up at Kelowna General Hospital Sunday around 12:00 p.m., one with a gunshot wound and another who was found dead in a vehicle in the parking lot.
The victim, 34-year-old Cory Allan Patterson of Kelowna, was believed to be shot while the two men were driving in the McCullough Road area before the shooter fled the area in a light coloured passenger vehicle.
The Kelowna RCMP Serious Crime Unit has taken over control of the investigation and is releasing Patterson’s identity in order to advance the investigation.
RCMP scoured the McCulloch Road area extensively and located evidence that showed the incident happened in that area. Officers remain in the area collecting physical evidence and speaking to residents and witnesses.
“This incident happened on our streets during the middle of the day,” said Cpl. Jocelyn Noseworthy of the Kelowna RCMP. “Such a reckless and violent incident put everyone in the area at great risk. We are doing everything in our power to identify the person or persons and we are appealing to witnesses to come forward and speak with us.”
No further information is being released at this time, but RCMP is urging anyone who witnessed or has knowledge of the incident to come forward to speak with police immediately.
