Pattison radio stations broadcast ‘Better Together’ day for JoeAnna’s House
Starting at 6 a.m. this Thursday (Oct. 8), the Jim Pattison Radio Group is teaming up morning show hosts from 103.1 Beach Radio and Power 104 for “Better Together Day,” an all-day, live radio event to raise much-needed funds for JoeAnna’s House.
Since opening less than a year ago, JoeAnna’s House has provided a home-away-from-home for hundreds of out-of-town families needing a place to stay close to Kelowna General Hospital where their loved ones receive advanced medical care.
Operated by the KGH Foundation, JoeAnna’s House relies solely on the continued generosity of the community to remain open. The local Pattison stations decided the cause was enough to inspire the landmark, collaboration between sister stations, 103.1 Beach Radio and Power 104.
“JoeAnna’s House stands as a testament to what is possible when we work together as a community,” said Karl Johnston, General Manager, Jim Pattison Broadcast Group, Okanagan. “And so in the spirit of coming together to support families when they need it the most, we will be ‘better together; for one LIVE show!”
As the lead referral hospital for up to 1 million residents in the B.C. interior, at any given time, one in four beds at KGH is occupied by someone outside the Central Okanagan. Even during the pandemic – families must still travel to Kelowna to support their loved ones, now under more strain than ever. The need for JoeAnna’s House has never been greater.
“For so many families wanting to maintain a presence at KGH for the period of their loved ones treatment, the travel and lack of affordable short-term accommodation in Kelowna adds significantly to their hardship,” said Darlene Haslock Manager of JoeAnna’s House. “Often we see people who arrive in town with no personal belongings; they are completely overwhelmed because of their loved one’s medical situation and the financial drain and emotional burden of trying to find a place to stay during an already difficult time is simply crushing.”
