Fire causes major damage to restaurant
UPDATE 9:22 a.m.
A fire has caused major damage to a popular Kelowna restaurant.
The fire department says a blaze at Olympia Greek Taverna on Highway 33 in Rutland started in the rear portion just after 11 p.m.
There were numerous 911 calls about the incident.
“The fire had spread throughout the restaurant and was very difficult to extinguish. Fire crews remain on scene extinguishing hot spots,” said platoon captain Dennis Miller.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
“Four engines, a command unit, rescue truck, two ladder trucks along with 25 fire personnel, including called-back staff, were dispatched to the scene,” Miller added.
Co-owner Mike Koutsantonis said the business is destroyed, but they plan to rebuild.

There was a fire overnight at a popular restaurant in Rutland.
The fire department was called to Olympia Greek Taverna about 11:30 and arrived to flames shooting out of the building.
The area around Highway 33 and Rutland road is still an active fire scene this morning and some areas are closed off.
