Snowfall warning issued for parts of Okanagan
Environment Canada has issued a snowfall warning for the Central and South Okanagan.
The weather agency is forecasting 10 to 15 centimetres in those areas, with 15 to 20 cm on the Okanagan Connector from Kelowna to Merritt and the Coquihalla Highway from Merritt to Hope.
“A low pressure system moving southeast across Vancouver Island will continue to give snow at times heavy today,” the warning said. “Totals accumulations of 10 to 20 cm can be expected over most areas. However, lower elevations of the Fraser Canyon and the south Okanagan are expected to receive minimal amounts as the snow will be mixed with rain. The snow will ease to a few flurries or showers this evening as the low moves to the south.”
The North Okanagan is forecasted to get five to 10 centimetres of snow, ending this evening.
Environment Canada said motorists should be prepared to adjust their driving with changing road conditions.
“Visibility may be suddenly reduced at times in heavy snow. Surfaces such as highways, roads, walkways and parking lots may become difficult to navigate due to accumulating snow.”
