Former NHL goalie’s art featured at art gallery
To fans of the Vancouver Canucks, he’s known as “King Richard,” but these days, he’s a Kelowna-based artist.
Former NHL goalie Richard Brodeur is one of three artists being featured in a new Arts Council of the Central Okanagan (ARTSCO) exhibit at the Kelowna Art Gallery. The exhibit, entitled Storytellers, opens on Saturday, November 28, and will also feature the work of Danielle Krysa and Jude Clarke.
The exhibition centres around the idea that we are all storytellers encountering narratives all the time, whether that be in books, newspapers, conversations, online media outlets or on social media. Despite these many overlapping stories that compete for attention in our daily lives, it is our own inner narrative that is our most compelling means of communication. It is the product of this subconscious landscape, which will be represented visually in Storytellers. By sharing their stories, Danielle Krysa, Jude Clarke and Richard Brodeur invite you to open up and let the vital spark of creativity inspire you.
Kirsteen McCulloch, Executive Director at ARTSCO, is hoping the exhibit will get people dreaming and thinking about their own stories:
“The story of 2020 is still unfolding but it’s fair to say that it has been a dark and challenging year. I believe the works and stories featured in this exhibition will provide hope, light and inspiration in this time of substantial change and uncertainty-to quote Leonard Cohen; ‘There is a crack in everything, that’s how the light gets in.’
