Young driver tries to flee from police after crash
A teenager is facing numerous potential charges after a recent crash in West Kelowna.
Police say on Wednesday, Dec. 9 just after 10:30 p.m., West Kelowna RCMP responded to a report of a single vehicle collision on Highway 97 near Campbell Road. According to witnesses the driver reportedly fled the vehicle on foot. An initial investigation revealed that the vehicle involved had been reported stolen five days previously, on Dec. 4 in Kelowna.
RCMP officers flooded the area spotted and approached a man, a short distance away, who matched the description of the driver. He allegedly provided a false name to police before further fleeing on foot. The man was located by another officer, and again attempted to flee. He was arrested without further incident after a foot chase.
The 18-year-old Kelowna man was held in custody. The investigation has been forwarded to the BC Prosecution Service for review and charge approval.
RCMP are not releasing further information at this time.
