B.C. COVID-19 update Monday: death toll surpasses 1,000
British Columbia is reporting 1,475 new COVID-19 cases since Friday, along with 22 more deaths.
The latest fatalities push the overall total in the province over one-thousand to 1,010.
Health Minister Adrian Dix said two of the deaths were in Interior Health, 13 in Fraser Health, five in Northern Health, one in Island Health and one in Vancouver Coastal.
The daily case totals are down a bit from last week’s numbers with 538 from Friday to Saturday, 507 from Saturday to Sunday and 430 from Sunday to Monday.
Interior Health had 217 of the new cases, with 287 in Vancouver Coastal Health, 736 in Fraser Health, 59 on Vancouver Island, 173 in Northern Health and three people who normally reside outside Canada.
Dr. Bonnie Henry, provincial health officer, said there are 5,220 active cases, with 358 people in hospital, and 72 in intensive or critical care.
Currently 7,313 are actively being monitored for COVID-19 and 50,541 people are considered recovered.
Henry said 59,902 vaccinations (Pfizer and Moderna) had been administered in B.C. up until the end of the day Sunday (Jan. 10).
