A burning candle appears to have caused a house fire in West Kelowna.
West Kelowna Fire Rescue (WKFR) responded to a structure fire Thursday night in the 3100 block of Vineyard View Way.
The occupants were able to get out safely after the fire started in the basement.
“Crews did a great job getting a quick knock down to prevent the fire from spreading to the first floor,” Chad Gartrell, assistant fire chief, said.
“Investigators were on scene and determined the cause was accidental
“WKFR would like to remind residents to avoid using candles in bedrooms, bathrooms, and sleeping areas,” Gartrell added. “WKFR would also like to remind residents to extinguish candles when you leave a room, the home, or go to bed.”
