A Kamloops-based B.C. Supreme Court judge has earned a promotion.
Federal Justice Minister David Lametti announced the appointment of Len Marchand Jr. to the B.C. Court of Appeal Wednesday (Mar. 24).
After a 17-year career as a lawyer, Marchand was appointed a provincial judge in 2013 and elevated to the B.C. Supreme Court in 2017.
Marchand is the son of the late Len Marchand, who was Canada’s first Indigenous Member of Parliament and first Indigenous cabinet minister under then-Prime Minister Pierre Trudeau. The elder Marchand was born in Vernon and was a member of the Okanagan Indian Band.
The younger Marchand succeeds Justice H.M. Groberman on the B.C. Court of Appeal.
