B.C. Covid update Friday: 1,001 new cases
B.C. is ending the work week with 1,001 new Covid-19 cases.
That’s down slightly from the 1,006 cases on Thursday, but up from the mid-800 days on Tuesday and Wednesday.
Active cases are at 8,842, with 486 people hospitalized and 160 in critical or intensive care.
The hospital numbers are down slightly from the record numbers earlier this week.
There have been four new Covid-related deaths, for a total of 1,554 in B.C.
New case counts by health region:
- Vancouver Coastal Health 215 (21.5 per cent)
- Fraser Health 626 (62.5 per cent)
- Island Health 26 (2.6 per cent)
- Interior Health 93 (9.3 per cent)
- Northern Health 39 (3.9 per cent)
- 2 new cases of people who reside outside of Canada.
There are two new health-care outbreaks at Craigdarroch Care Centre (Island) and Sandalwood Retirement Resort (Kelowna).
In B.C., 1,542,066 doses of Pfizer-BioNTech, Moderna and AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccines have been administered, 88,663 of which are second doses.
“We encourage everyone to register on the Get Vaccinated website – whether they are getting their vaccine as part of the age-based program, worker program or at their local pharmacy. Everyone 18 years and older is now eligible to register for their vaccine,” a statement from Dr. Bonnie Henry and Health Minister Adrian Dix said.
