One dead, two injured in Trans Canada collision
CHASE, B.C. — One person is dead in a crash just northeast of Chase.
According to B.C. Highway Patrol, the collision took place on the Trans Canada Highway around Jade Mountain just before 1:00 p.m. Wednesday (June 16).
Spokesman Cpl. Mike Halskov says it appears a pickup truck travelling westbound in the passing lane went into the opposing lane, colliding head-on with a large commercial vehicle.
The driver of the pickup, who was the lone occupant, was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the commercial vehicle was taken to hospital in serious condition. A passenger in the commercial truck had minor injuries.
The Trans Canada is closed in both directions as authorities try to determine what caused the crash.
Halskov notes the B.C. Coroners Service and the RCMP Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Service will need to investigate before they can release the scene.
Drivers are reminded to check Drive BC’s website for updates on the status of the highway.
