Trustee by-election result now official
It’s now official.
Wayne Broughton has been elected as a trustee for the Central Okanagan Board of Education after a by-election June 26.
Conducted by the City of Kelowna on behalf of the Board, the by-election saw Dr. Broughton, a math professor at UBC Okanagan, elected with 1,033 out of 2,042 total votes cast.
“The Board of Education appreciates the City of Kelowna running a safe, effective election on our behalf, and we congratulate Dr. Wayne Broughton on his election to the Board,” said Board Chairperson Moyra Baxter. “We look forward to working with Dr. Broughton as we strive to ensure that all students have safe and equitable learning opportunities so they can learn to thrive as global citizens.”
Baxter said the next year will be another busy time for the board, with consultation on catchment areas in Okanagan Mission and the Westside, as well as advocating for new school space in the growing school district.
A swearing-in ceremony will be held on July 13 at 5:00 p.m. at the School Board Office.
Broughton’s term will end in November 2022 following the general school election for the Board of Education.
Broughton had 1,033 votes, with Joyce Brinkerhoff at 739, Peter Pagliocchini had 228 and Chelsea Frank had 42.
The by-election was held due to the death of trustee Rolli Cacchioni in March.
