Vees,Clippers advance to BCHL Final with sweeps

Two teams on major rolls will meet in the BC Hockey League Final.
The Penticton Vees and Nanaimo Clippers both completed four-game sweeps of their respective conference finals on Wednesday.
The Vees knocked off the West Kelowna Warriors 6-1 in the Interior Final at Royal LePage Place, getting two goals from Jackson Nieuwendyk, son of former NHL’er, Joe Nieuwendyk.
The Clippers eliminated the Langley Rivermen with a 6-1 victory at George Preston Arena in Langley.
The Clippers are 12-0 in the playoffs, while the Vees are 12-1, their only loss to the Trail Smoke Eaters in their opening playoff game.
The final series, for the Fred Page Cup, will begin Friday, May 13 in Penticton.

The Penticton Vees and Nanaimo Clippers are off to strong starts in the BC Hockey League’s conference finals.
The Vees blanked the West Kelowna Warriors 6-0 before 3,672 fans at the South Okanagan Events Centre Saturday to take a 2-0 lead in the Interior Final.
Game 3 will be in West Kelowna Monday night.
The Clippers got 26 saves from Cooper Black in a 3-0 win over the Langley Rivermen before a crowd of 1,556 in Nanaimo Saturday.
The Clippers lead the Coastal Final 2-0 with game 3 in Langley Tuesday night.

Rockets out of playoffs after OT loss, BCHL’s Final Four opens

The Kelowna Rockets WHL season came to an end with a 4-3 loss in overtime to the Seattle Thunderbirds on Friday night at the accesso ShoWare Centre in Kent, Was.
The Thunderbirds took the best of seven series four games to one.
Down by two goals with under eight minutes to play in regulation, Jake Lee and Gabriel Szturc scored back to back goals ten seconds apart to tie the game at three. In overtime, the Rockets gave up the puck resulting in a two-on-one opportunity for Seattle, New York Rangers prospect Matthew Rempe secured the series win by beating fellow Rangers prospect Talyn Boyko with his second of the night 1:20 into OT.
The Thunderbirds outshot the Rockets 44-21, with Boyko stopping 40 of the shots he faced through 61:20 of action. Seattle goaltender Thomas Milic turned aside 18 of the 21 shots fired on him.
The Rockets were without Mark Liwiski, who was serving the second game of his two-game suspension, and Pavel Novak.
The BC Hockey League’s conference finals started Friday with the Penticton Vees dumping the West Kelowna Warriors 8-1 in the Interior Final and the Nanaimo Clippers shutting out the Langley Rivermen 4-0 to open the Coastal Final.
