Police cleared in Peachland shooting deaths
B.C.’s police watchdog has cleared RCMP officers from an incident in Peachland where two people died.
Officers reportedly received a report at 4:30 p.m. June 27, 2022, of a person who was shot and a second individual planning to hurt themselves.
Officers arrived at a residence on Garraway Place and set up a perimeter while attempting to make contact with the person inside.
At around 6:20 p.m., members of the Southeast District Emergency Response Team were able to enter the residence, where two people were found deceased.
The Independent Investigation Office of B.C. (IIOBC) has reviewed the evidence, including medical and forensic evidence, and found the police were not responsible for the deaths.
Though the IIOBC investigation is concluded, the B.C. Coroners Service and RCMP investigations into the deaths are ongoing.
