Hunters and injured skier rescued
It was COSAR to the rescue for some hunters and an injured skier in separate call-outs this week.
Central Okanagan Search and Rescue was asked by RCMP to check on two overdue hunters in the Beaverdell area Monday (Dec. 12) around 3 a.m.
Using a tracked UTV, the team escorted RCMP into the area until they found the hunters’ camp.
Their vehicle had broken down and the two decided to spend the night before walking out in the snow.
Instead, COSAR brought the pair back to a main road where they were met by friends.
And then on Wednesday afternoon (Dec. 14), COSAR was called to the Kelowna Nordic Ski and Snowshoe area to extract an injured skier.
“A COSAR member was skiing on her own when she spotted the fallen woman and used her Zoleo emergency locator beacon to call 911,” a COSAR news release stated. “She then called the Nordic groomer operator and got him to bring up the cat to help extract the subject.”
The group met up with the rest of the COSAR team at the main cabin, where they administered pain medication and transferred the skier to a waiting ambulance.
