RCMP investigate pepper spraying in mall
Police are calling an incident at a Kelowna mall unacceptable behaviour that put members of the public at risk.
On Thursday, Jan. 12, around 3:30 p.m., RCMP responded to a mall in the 2200 block of Harvey Avenue after receiving a report that someone had released pepper spray in the food court area.
Witnesses say one male bear sprayed another male, then fled on foot.
“Multiple officers responded along with the RCMP Police Dog Service (PDS), but unfortunately, due to weather and traffic conditions, PDS track could not be obtained,” Const. Mike Della-Paolera said.
The officer said the victim knew his assailant but declined to provide police with a statement.
He was released to his parent after treatment by the BC Ambulance Service and is expected to make a full recovery.
“Our investigators will continue to gather all the evidence and will be forwarding charges when the suspect’s identity is confirmed,” Della-Paolera remarked.
