Carport fire spreads to roof, neighbours take action
Residents and neighbours used garden hoses to fight a house fire in Kelowna.
The first calls to dispatch came in around 9 a.m. Thursday at a home in the 1200 block of Mountainview Street.
The fire spread from the carport into the roof structure before crews arrived which is when the residents took action, using hoses.
The first arriving officer reported smoke and flames from the carport and smoke showing from the soffits on three sides of the structure.
Firefighters were able to quickly contain and extinguish the fire in the roof system and carport but the roof system was heavily damaged.
The occupants were able to evacuate safely and there were no injuries to the residents or firefighters.
The residents will be out of home until the structure is deemed safe.
The cause of the fire is undetermined but not suspicious.
