Cycling BC — the organization that approved a weekend mountain bike race on Big White near Kelowna — says the entire provincial cycling community has been shaken by the death of a competitor.
Cycling BC chief executive Erin Waugh says the governing body is working with local authorities and the event organizers at Big White to ensure a “thorough investigation of the accident.”
Few details have been released, but an official with Big White says the unnamed cyclist died after a crash on the course at the BC Cup downhill racing event.
Waugh says, out of respect for the cyclist’s family, Cycling BC will not be granting interviews, but could provide an update “when and if deemed appropriate.”
