Crews attack Okanagan fire quickly
Crews from West Kelowna Fire Rescue responded to the Bartley Road area Saturday evening for reports of visible smoke and flame in the trees and grass.
The first arriving crews found a pile of agricultural debris that was burning with some extension into the wildland area.
“Given the high fire danger, hot temperatures, and winds, the fire was actioned swiftly with multiple resources. An initial attack crew from the BC Wildfire Service also responded and stood by,” fire chief Jason Brolund said.
Brolund said the fire was contained and brought under control quickly. No evacuation alerts or orders were required for homes in the immediate area.
The cause of the fire was not able to be determined. There were no injuries.
“We are urging the public to be aware of high fire danger. The potential for a serious wildfire is very real. Please report any sightings of smoke or fire immediately,” Brolund said.
