Police issue warning about drones near YLW
RCMP are investigating two recent incidents of drones being flown near Kelowna International Airport (YLW).
The first one was around 5 p.m. on Thursday, July 27 where a personal drone was being flown north of Wood Lake in the flight path of the airport.
The second incident was Thursday, Aug. 3 where a drone was spotted within the 5.6 kilometre no-fly zone around the airport.
Police say flying drones in the vicinity of an airport poses a significant safety risk to all incoming and outgoing flights, but also to members of the general public below.
“We encourage you to call the police immediately if you notice suspicious activity or witness the dangerous operation of a drone towards persons, properties, other aircraft, or within 5.6 km of any airport,” Const. Mike Della-Paolera, media relations officer, said.
