FireSmart seeks wildfire footage for research
BC FireSmart is hoping residents will share images or videos of the fires that impacted either West Kelowna or the Shuswap regions this summer in hopes of better understanding the fire patterns.
The BC FireSmart Committee will be undertaking comprehensive post-fire research to learn from the devastating events.
“By analyzing important observations and lessons during this research, we can contribute to recovery, help design wildfire-resilient communities, improve forest policy and practices, and develop effective fuel treatments,” a statement in the latest BC FireSmart newsletter said.
“In short, sharing your images and videos will help us prepare for future wildfire seasons and reduce the negative impacts of fires.”
The organization stresses the images are strictly for the purpose of data collection and analysis. They will not be used without express permission.
