Temporary housing operators named
The John Howard Society will operate Kelowna’s new temporary housing site on Crowley Avenue, while Turning Points Collaborative Society will run the one at 2740 Highway 97 North.
The two sites will provide 120 temporary homes, some of them so-called tiny homes, to address homelessness.
The facility at 759 Crowley is expected to open in February and the other one in March.
“We know this housing is needed urgently, which is why we have worked quickly to secure experienced operators who can provide the necessary supports and services vulnerable people need to stabilize their lives,” Ravi Kahlon, minister of housing, said.
The sites are on land owned by the City of Kelowna, which will lease it to the province for a nominal fee.
The operators will provide support services such as daily meals, 24-7 staffing, access to skills training and support navigating the housing system.
