‘Prominent’ member of wine industry facing sexual assault allegations
RCMP are investigating sexual assault allegations against a man they say is a prominent member of the South Okanagan wine industry.
The person’s name is not being released, but Mounties in Oliver say the man is “alleged to have sexually assaulted a migrant worker from Mexico, whom he’d employed.”
Investigators believe there may be additional victims or witnesses, and are encouraging them to come forward.
“Considering the seriousness of this allegation, and the potential for additional victims, police are reaching out to the community to speak with those who have yet to come forward,” Cpl. James Grandy, BC RCMP spokesperson, said. “If you have been a victim, or have any information, we’re encouraging you to speak with us.”
Grandy said the RCMP has Spanish-speaking officers available to assist if any potential victims have language barriers,.
“Due to the ongoing investigation, no further details are being released at this time,” the corporal added.
Any victims, or those with additional information, are asked to contact the Oliver RCMP detachment at (250) 498-3422, and quote file 2023-5996.
