Police make drug haul after finding hidden compartment
RCMP are reporting what they call a significant drug bust in the Central Okanagan.
“In late December of 2023, the Kelowna RCMP’s Strike Force made a significant drug and cash seizure stemming from proactive patrols in the Rutland community. Officers observed a vehicle and individuals behaving in a way consistent with drug trafficking and initiated surveillance of the suspect vehicle,” Cpl. Michael Gauthier said.
Following a traffic stop, both the driver and passenger were arrested for possession of a controlled substance.
“In searching both the individuals and the vehicle, investigators located evidence consistent with drug trafficking as well as grounds to believe the vehicle was likely concealing additional evidence in a hidden compartment,” Gauthier said.
Officers seized the vehicle and obtained a warrant to search it further, confirming the presence of a hidden compartment and additional drug trafficking evidence.
Gauthier said about $6,000 in cash, a kilogram of suspected cocaine, 180 grams of methamphetamine and 180 grams of fentanyl were seized in total.
Both individuals have been released from custody while the investigation continues and is prepared for the BC Prosecution Service.
