Update: Highways reopen after lengthy closures

Traffic is moving again on two of B.C.’s main highways.
Drive BC says the Coquihalla Highway reopened between Merritt and Hope around 12 p.m. Thursday.
Highway 1 between Revelstoke and Golden reopened around 12:45 p.m.

Highway closures into second day due to winter weather
Two major highways remained closed as of 9:30 a.m Thursday due to the impacts of winter weather.
Drive BC says Highway 5, the Coquihalla, is closed in both directions between Hope and Merritt while crews work to manage road conditions.
Environment Canada said the Coquihalla Summit received 30 cms of snow on Wednesday.
An alternate route is available on Highway 1.
The estimated time of reopening is noon, with the next update at approximately 10 a.m.
Highway 1 has also been shut down since Wednesday afternoon from Revelstoke to Golden due to high avalanche hazard.
That is estimated to reopen at noon, with the next update at 10 a.m.
Highway 3, the The Kootenay Pass, is closed in both directions between Salmo and Creston due to rapidly deteriorating conditions.
The next update will be at 12 p.m.
