Security guards take control of armed suspect

RCMP were called to a business in the 1500-block of Banks Road in Kelowna Monday evening for a man waving a knife around trying to attack a security guard.

When officers arrived, the man was being pinned down by security.

The suspect, a 49-year-old West Kelowna-area man, was arrested on a number of charges and ordered to appear in court on Thursday.

“This individual’s actions are concerning and police recommended he be held in custody to deter similar actions from occurring. Fortunately, the security guard and other bystander were not injured during this act of violence,” Cpl. Michael Gauthier, media relations unit, said. “Our office will continue to work with the BC Prosecution Service to ensure police did everything possible to maintain safety for our community.”
