Residents asked to provide input on safe mobility plan
Kelowna is seeking public input on how to make its transportation system safer.
Residents are invited to take a survey before June 16 and/or attend a public information session on May 28 to share their experiences and perceptions of safe mobility in Kelowna.
“Kelowna’s Safe Mobility Action Plan will be developed in alignment with council priorities, the 2040 Transportation Master Plan and Canada’s and B.C.’s road safety strategies,” Jenny Hostland, Transportation Planner said.
“We are developing a plan that focuses on making Kelowna safer and more livable for everyone, with practical solutions for now and in the future.”
Hostland said the plan will recognize that humans make mistakes, and that the transportation system should be designed to forgive errors and prevent them from resulting in more severe consequences, such as someone being killed or seriously injured.
A draft vision statement and guiding principles for the plan have been developed and will be refined and finalized as part of the community engagement.
