Business helps search group provide medical training for members
Central Okanagan Search and Rescue is making medical training a priority for its members due to the increased severity of the calls they have to respond to.
The non-profit organization has added a physician and experienced flight nurse to its team and have implemented weekly medical training sessions for all members.
The group is thanking Bob and Bruce Callahan of Callahan Property Group for making the training possible, and for their ongoing support.
“In a remarkable display of generosity, Callahan Property Group has pledged $75,000 over the next three years to aid COSAR in its mission. Their initial contribution of $25,000 has been allocated towards advanced medical training, procurement of medical supplies, and acquisition of essential equipment,” a news release from COSAR stated.
Bruce Callahan said they are thrilled to make the commitment to further advance the search team’s efforts.
“As avid outdoor enthusiasts, the Central Okanagan Search and Rescue mandate resonates with us,” Callhan commented. “Our backcountry is beautiful and vast and to be shared with our community and visitors alike. It is reassuring that the Okanagan has a capable and skilled team in place to assist when help is needed.”
COSAR president Brad Trites said financial support from the community is essential to help their team provide the necessary resources for their subjects.
“With the unwavering support of partners like Callahan Property Group, we are better equipped than ever to fulfill our mission of serving the community in times of need,” Trites said.
COSAR is comprised of about 55 trained, professional volunteers. Over the last couple of years, the organization has been requested to respond to over 100 tasks per year covering an area that spans from Peachland to Kalamalka Lake, and Beaverdell to Elkhart Summit.
