Duplex damaged by fire
West Kelowna Fire Rescue responded to a fully-involved fire at a duplex residence on Last Road Wednesday morning.
Fire Chief Jason Brolund said the first arriving crews ensured the safety of all residents and the evacuation of an apartment building next door.
“Fire crews worked hard to protect buildings on both sides of the fire, including the apartment. 26 firefighters in five apparatus responded from all West Kelowna stations,” Brolund said.
The fire building sustained heavy damage. There was a small amount of smoke that was cleared by firefighters in the apartment, with those residents allowed to return home.
“All residents are believed to be safe at this time and have been offered the care of Emergency Support Services,” Brolund added.
There were no injuries. The investigation into the fire is ongoing.
Brolund said as fire overhaul continues, traffic on Last Road at Brown Road is impacted. People are asked to avoid the area.
RCMP, BC Ambulance, Fortis Gas and B.C. Hydro as well as ESS also responded to the incident.
