Households across the Central Okanagan are receiving pink recycling boxes in advance of an expanded curbside program.
The program is set to officially begin May 1, 2026.
Recycle BC is taking over collection services in the region and will add flexible plastics along with non-deposit glass bottles and jars to the list of accepted materials.
The pink box is for flexible plastics, while a new grey box will be used for glass containers. Flexible plastics include items such as bread bags, overwrap, pouches, crinkly wrappers and bubble wrap, while the glass category covers clear and coloured food and condiment jars.
Collection of the new materials will take place every two weeks on the same day as blue-lidded recycling carts, though some pickup schedules may shift as routes are updated.
