Early maintenance underway at many city facilities
With several city facilities closed due to COVID-19 measures, annual maintenance at recreation centres and arenas is now underway in Kelowna.
General maintenance and cleaning is being conducted at various gymnasiums and aquatic areas including Parkinson Recreation Centre, H2O Adventure and Fitness Centre and Kelowna Family YMCA in addition to maintenance work at various activity centers, cultural facilities and arenas.
“It’s important that we take advantage of these buildings being vacant now to be able to maximize public use when it is deemed safe for these facility operations to resume,” said Arlo Johnson, Building Services Manager.
Annual maintenance of city-owned recreation facilities is necessary in order to maintain clean and safe facilities and typically occurs in late August or early September with full or partial shutdowns to complete the work.
“The last thing we want to do is receive the green light to reopen these facilities, only to shut them down again for annual maintenance,” said Johnson.
