29 new COVID cases in B.C.; death toll nears 100
British Columbia has 29 new cases of Covid-19 since Thursday including two new cases in the Interior Health region.
B.C.’s death toll is now at 98 with four more fatalities in the Vancouver and Fraser health regions.
37 employees have confirmed cases at poultry processing plants in the Lower Mainland, and there are now 10 cases connected to the Kearl Lake work project in Fort McMurray Alberta.
“There have been no new outbreaks in long-term care, assisted living or acute care in the last day. In total, 20 facilities and three acute-care units have active outbreaks, with outbreaks declared over at 10 care facilities,” said a statement from health minister Adrian Dix and provincial health officer Dr. Bonnie Henry.
To date, 1,114 people who had tested positive for Covid-19 have recovered and no longer require isolation.
96 individuals are hospitalized, and 41 of those are in intensive care. The remaining people are recovering at home in self-isolation.
“Maintaining a safe physical distance, washing hands frequently and staying home when ill continue to be the best things we can do to protect our communities and continue to bend the curve,” said the statement.
B.C’s next Covid update will be at 1 p.m. Saturday.
