Crew rescues person who fell in canyon
Kelowna fire and rescue personnel performed a technical rescue of a person who fell into Canyon Falls in the Crawford Estates area.
The fire department dispatch center received a 911 call reporting the fall around 5:30 p.m. Wednesday
“The first arriving officer confirmed one male had fallen about thirty to forty feet to the bottom of the canyon,” said platoon captain John Kelly. “It was determined that a high angle rescue was required to extract the patient.”
Two firefighters were able to get to the patient and provide an assessment. Central Okanagan Search and Rescue was also contacted and a helicopter was dispatched.
The patient was packaged and airlifted from the canyon and taken to a waiting ambulance.
There is no word on his condition.
KFD responded with 10 members, along with COSAR, RCMP and BCAS.
“People are reminded to use extreme caution when accessing hiking trails and obey all posted signs,” added Kelly.
