Man arrested after gun and knife reports
RCMP made an arrest after responding to reports of a man pointing a gun at a motorist and using a machete on a taxi cab Thursday evening in Kelowna.
Officers responded to a complaint of a gun being pointed at a motorist by the driver of a white car near Banks Road and Enterprise Way around 5:30 p.m. May 21. A short time later, a taxicab driver reported that a man in a white car had damaged his cab with a machete while he was parked in the 2600-block of Enterprise Way. The man fled the scene in the white car.
A short time later, RCMP located the suspect vehicle near the Rutland Community Policing Office and the man was taken into custody without further incident.
“This is not believed to be an act of random violence,” says Cpl. Jocelyn Noseworthy of the Kelowna RCMP. “Regardless, this was an extremely dangerous incident, and it is fortunate no one was injured.”
The 25-year-old Kelowna man has been released on strict conditions for a future court date. The matter will be submitted to the BC Prosecution Service for review.
