Police investigate drowning in Okanagan Lake
RCMP and the Coroner’s Service are investigating the drowning death of a man in the Central Okanagan.
Emergency crews were called to Okanagan Lake near the 2000 block of Boucherie Road on Thursday (July 9) around 1:45 p.m., after a 911 call for a report a drowning incident.
Police learned that a 65-year-old man was swimming in the lake and failed to re-surface.
Witnesses pulled the man from the water within minutes and began CPR. Emergency services arrived on scene and continued life saving efforts, but the man could not be resuscitated.
“Despite the best efforts of everyone involved and the heroic efforts of witnesses, the man passed away,” stated Cst. Solana Par. “RCMP Victim Services are providing support to the witnesses, friends and family of the victim. Our thoughts and prayers go out to the friends and family of the victim during this difficult time.”
The BC Coroners Service is investigating the circumstances around the death.
