Woman assaulted in Kelowna’s downtown
RCMP are investigating a late-night assault that occurred Sunday in Kelowna’s downtown core.
On July 12, just before 12:30 a.m., Kelowna RCMP received a report that a woman had been assaulted by an unknown male suspect in the 1300-block of Ellis Street.
The woman managed to free herself and run away.
Nearby witnesses assisted the woman while calling 911.
Frontline officers immediately flooded the area and conducted extensive patrols, however the suspect was not located.
Forensic specialists probed the scene of the attack, and investigators have canvassed the area for witnesses and video surveillance.
Police said the victim suffered non-life threatening injuries and received medical treatment at scene by Emergency Health Services.
“RCMP credit the woman for her strong will, as she managed to free and defend herself.” said Const. Solana Par. “RCMP victim services are providing support to the victim while our investigators continue to investigate the incident and whether it was a random or targeted attack.”
The suspect is described as an Asian male, in his 20s, of slim build, black-styled hair, wearing a beige ‘Burberry’ plaid shirt, jeans, white running shoes and glasses.
